France and Belgium 2nd to 4th of May

Hi Everyone,

These past 3 days we went to France and Belgium. In France we visited the Somme mostly because of the Horrific battles that were fought there in the 1st world war. When in Belgium we went to Bruges.

On Friday night after we finished school we drove all the way to Dover. The car trip was smooth until we got to the M25 where we hit a bit of traffic because it goes past Heathrow airport and being a long week end it was busy. We got to Dover though and that night stayed there in a hotel in 1 room Declan and Dad got to bed before me and were snoring there heads off. In the morning we saw about 5 Ferrari's Mum was quite amused by this.

We boarded a ferry without a hitch and soon we were in France. Then we hit a problem because they drive on the wrong side of the road this wasn't much of a problem on the motor ways but on normal roads every time Dad went to turn left he would go to the left hand lane and mum had to tell him to get on the other side of the road. Then we went to the first grave site of many on this trip. It was called Adelaide where there were about 300 to 400 graves. There are not many jokes from this time because there was nothing funny about we were looking at. From there we went to a little town that was called Villers-Bretonneux. We were told they loved the Australians because this is where we did most of our fighting on the Western Front. Then we had difficulty asking where the school was and he didn't know much English so I had to use my french skills just joking. At the school there with a museum in it, in the play ground there was a massive sign that said Don't Forget The Australians. In the museum there was lots of photos of soldiers and they had dioramas of what the battle field would of been like. From that point, we visited the graves of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Divisions. They weren't grave yards, there was only a stone spire. Then we went to the Windmill site, Australians fell thicker there then anywhere else. Then after that we drove to our hotel.

The next morning We set off for Tyne-Cot. It was another gave yard but this one was a lot bigger. Here we saw solider with the Victoria cross. Then we went to Cobbers Park. Here is where we put a Australian flag. After we made our way to Bruges in Belgium. We got there late in the afternoon. We walked around the city. We went on a boat ride through the canals. It was good we went under lots of bridges and we saw a dog in the window then later we found that the same dog that was in the film call In Bruges. Mum and Dad wouldn't stop banding on about it. We also saw a big Cathedral which looked more like a tent when we were the because it was being cleaned. The carnival was in town when we were there Declan and I went on the Ferris wheel and took photos of the town. Declan was crapping himself because it was pretty high and it was swinging and they made it go fast.

The next morning we went to look at all the shops and yes we had to buy Chocolate because the Belgium chocolate is the best according to Mum. Then wen went to Veurne it was a nice little town where we had lunch. After that we headed to Dunkirk which was unbelievably Bad as it was, was oil refineries. So we went back into France to catch the Ferry back but we were early so we went to a army base from world war 2. There were also white cliffs and it was a great view.

I am sorry I took so long to write the blog but I have had exams. Make sure you you look at all the photos it will give you a much better picture then my blog.
